Pressed for Time Paninis by Julie Van Bergen and Danielle Hernandez


Julie and Danielle realized that there was a lack of food businesses offering healthy lunches for people who do not have the time to make or bring a lunch to work. Therefore, they decided to seize the opportunity to reinvent the concept of lunch in downtown Guelph. More specifically, they have created lunch options that are fast, made with high quality food and with fresh ingredients. Their counter service restaurant and catering offers grilled wrapped paninis using homemade fillings and killer sauces. This locally owned business is open for breakfast and lunch and their menu also includes unique salads and desserts.

They took part in our Starter Company Plus Program here at the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington in order to achieve and expand their business goals. During this time they met with advisors and mentors to help innovate their ideas. Once eligible through the program, Julie and Danielle pitched their business at the pitch night event on June 21st, 2018, and were awarded a grant of $3,000.

Life Voice Canada by Shawna Percy

Life Voice Canada currently offers the following workshops: Mental
Health First Aid Basic, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills
Training,) safeTALK, and The “ASK” workshop (Assessing for Suicide
in Kids 5-14.) All Life Voice trainers are certified, and have valuable
life experience that bring the workshop to life. They provide both
in-house workshops, as well as workshops that are open to the

Shawna was eligible to participate in the Starter Company Plus
program, where she received mentoring and training. On June 21st,
2018, Shawna had the chance to present her idea at our Pitch Night,
at the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington, where she won a grant
of $5,000 to help grow and expand her business.

Donna Pardy Owner of Uprooted Farm


Uprooted Farm is an indoor container farm with a vertical hydroponic water farming system that produces fresh, healthy, non- genetically modified (GMO), and chemically free greens and herbs. Her mission, is to increase the supply of local high quality produce year round to the people of Wellington County and local food businesses. 

Early this year, she took part in the Starter Company Plus program offered at the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington with the hopes of launching her business. She met with advisors and mentors who helped her business grow and through the program, met the criteria to pitch her idea and realise her goals. On June 21st 2018, Donna pitched her business and the judges awarded her a grant of $3000 to take her business to the next level.
